look: 4.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25Poured from a 750mL bottle into an Alesmith taster glass. Acquired in a trade.
Pours a jet black inky opaque body with a mocha colored 2 finger head that sticks around for a while to leave a layer of retention and pretty thick lacing. A nice looking brew.
Aromas are light roasted coffee, chocolate malt, oats, toffee, some dark fruits, light vanilla. On the tongue is a dark roasted malt, light roasted coffee, dark fruit, toffee, a touch of vanilla, finishing with a slightly bitter coffee taste that sticks on the tongue for a bit.
As far as mouthfeel, I would have maybe preferred a little thicker, richer body, it’s a little light for a 12% ABV imperial stout. Reminds me more of a porter than a stout. That being said, it’s very drinkable and the ABV is pretty well hidden. Medium carbonation.
Overall I enjoyed putting this one down. The coffee added an extra layer of complexity to regular speedway. Maybe it would have been a little more flavor packed consumed fresh.
