Allagash Coolship Resurgam

resurgam

Coolship Resurgam is a blend of both old and young unfruited spontaneous beer. The name comes from the motto of Portland, Me. It means “I shall rise again”. Coolship Resurgam won a Silver medal at the 2010 GABF.

My Full Review:

Final Rating: 4.56/5
look: 4.5 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Poured from a 12.7 bottle into an Allagash tulip. Purchased at the brewery this past weekend.

Pours a super hazy, golden body with a big fluffy white head that reduces slowly, leaving a little lacing and chunky retention.

Big, potent aromas come through, barrel/oak make a big appearance here, as well as musty wood, funk, sharp acetic and a hint of vinegar. Citrus, hay, and slight grain are all also present on the nose.

On the tongue comes super tart citrus, tons of oak, hay, funky barnyard, sour apple, followed by cedar and a sour wild aftertaste that leaves the teeth chalky. Very tasty. Mouthfeel is medium with medium-high carbonation, easy sipper.

Delicious.. balanced.. complex, and one of the most elegant displays of oak aging I’ve experienced in a sour. Recommended.
