What happens when you stuff a keg of a world class stout (Imperial Biscotti Break) with sugar-glazed donuts? You get Evil Twin’s Imperial Doughnut Break. That’s right, this beer was brewed with doughnuts. Here’s my review:
Final Rating: 4.19/5
look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4
Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Bruery tulip glass. Thank you Eric for hooking me up with this one!
Appearance- Pours an oily, opaque, dark brown, nearly black body with a generous, 3 finger milk chocolate colored head that reduces slowly and leaves spotty lacing.
Smell- Subtle aromas a coffee, hazlenuts, milk chocolate and toffee dominate the nose.. in the background is caramel, vanilla, and interestingly enough – glazed donuts.
Taste- This is a very interesting stout – I’ve never tasted anything like it. The first thing to hit the tongue is a hugely bold combination of nutty and vanilla notes.. hazlenuts and butterscotch in particular, caramel, dark chocolate, and a roasty coffee flavor show up on the finish. Chocolate lingers on the tongue for a while.
Mouthfeel- Medium-heavy body, low carbonation.
I can say that I really enjoyed this beer – it was nothing spectacular, but definitely complex and unique. Worth a try.
