Tonight’s offering is a limited release Imperial Stout brewed by one of my all-time favorite breweries – Lagunita’s.
Lagunita’s Cappuccino Stout is brewed with freshly ground coffee beans and judging by the taste, quite a bit of them. The big cappuccino notes make this brew more fit to be an after-dinner drink than a compliment to your meal. Heck, you might as well pour some into your morning coffee mug, there’s probably enough caffeine in it to keep you buzzin’ till lunch time.
Don’t get too carried away though, because you might want to save a bottle or two. Lagunita’s announced that it will not be brewed in 2013. Too bad.
Here’s my full review:
Overall rating: 4.16/5
look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4
Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a Lagunita’s mason jar pint glass. Purchased in Wakefield, RI a few months ago and kept chilled since then.
A- Pours a translucent chocolate colored body with a light mocha, fluffy head that reduced slowly to an uneven layer of foam. Leaves some lacing.
S- Subtle aromas of coffee beans, toffee, espresso. You have to strain to really get a good whiff.
T- Starts off bready with caramel, toffee, and vanilla notes. The follow through reveals a very tasty freshly brewed coffee flavor, and the finish is very delicious – very roasty like a dark roast coffee that sticks on the tongue for a while. No alcohol detected.
M- For the ABV and style of beer, I was expecting this one to have a little more body to it, it’s slightly thin and watery for an imperial stout. Medium-low carbonation.
I was pretty impressed with this offering, it was tasty and very easy to drink, especially given it’s high alcohol content. The coffee really shines in this brew. If you can still find it, pick one up.
